"The stroke unit"

About: Worthing Hospital / General medicine

(as a relative),

What a terrible experience we had while my father was on the stroke unit. While the general nursing staff were fantastic. Senior level staff were appalling. From the first moment dad was admitted, i was met by a doctor. This doctor told me that my dad had had a massive stroke, and although they did have the ability to have removed the clot and massive improve his outcome......they don't do it on Saturdays. This information was delivered with a shrug and smile.  This attitude continued through out the whole of his care.

Ridiculously unprofessional, i was told by one member of staff that another had no idea what they were doing. I learnt of derogatory nicknames used among staff. As relatives, we were met with a wall of silence to any enquiries and during visiting times were made to feel uncomfortable and unwanted.

What a disgrace.

Hello.

We’re sorry to hear about your father’s stroke and that you feel he didn’t receive good care. It also sounds like you encountered some difficulties in dealing with various staff members.

It seems that the hospital is going to look into your concerns but if you’re still unhappy, you could get in touch with the Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS). PALS can help people to resolve health-related concerns and answer any questions they have about NHS care or treatment. You can call PALS at Worthing hospital on 01903 285 032 or email them at wshnt.ComplaintsTeam@nhs.net
