What a terrible experience we had while my father was on the stroke unit. While the general nursing staff were fantastic. Senior level staff were appalling. From the first moment dad was admitted, i was met by a doctor. This doctor told me that my dad had had a massive stroke, and although they did have the ability to have removed the clot and massive improve his outcome......they don't do it on Saturdays. This information was delivered with a shrug and smile. This attitude continued through out the whole of his care.
Ridiculously unprofessional, i was told by one member of staff that another had no idea what they were doing. I learnt of derogatory nicknames used among staff. As relatives, we were met with a wall of silence to any enquiries and during visiting times were made to feel uncomfortable and unwanted.
What a disgrace.
