"I opted for Sedation"

About: University Hospital Wishaw / Day Surgery

(as the patient),

I could not fault the nursing staff at all in their care of me before and after, they were fantastic. I opted for sedation. I had sedation before and don't recall much of anything of that procedure. Given this, I felt this was for me.

All I can tell you is that I have never ever in my life experienced pain, ( not discomfort ) actual pain in my life. So much so I am left traumatised and feel violated and now have nightmares of the whole thing. Yes this was with sedation. it didn't work, I was fully aware of everything, begged and pleaded for it to stop, never again will I have this procedure, likely never any procedure. To put people through this in day is beyond shocking. It was barbaric and traumatic. Please listen when patients tell you it hurts!

This broke my trust in you! !

Dear sally666666666

Thank you for taking the time to post your experience of your time at University Hospital Wishaw.

While I am glad that you are happy with the care you received from the Nursing staff, I am disappointed and concerned to hear of the pain you experienced and that after the procedure, you felt traumatised, violated and are experiencing nightmares. This is not the standards of care, compassion and support that I would expect to be delivered.

I am particularly sorry to read that your trust in us and the care that we provide has been broken.

In order for me to review all of the aspects of care that you received, provide you with reassurances and ensure that there will be learning from your experience, I would like to arrange a meeting to discuss this with you, this can be arranged with our patient affairs team via:

PatientAffairs.Wishaw@lanarkshire.scot.nhs.uk or telephone 01698 366 558.

I would like to take the opportunity to sincerely apologise to you for your experience.

Kind regards

Ben Mason
