"Care and compassion given to my elderly father"

About: University Hospital Wishaw / General Medicine (Wards 5 & 8)

(as a relative),

My family and I think it is only fair that ward 8 at Wishaw General hospital should be recognised as being the best ward by far for the care and compassion given to our father. Yvonne the head Staff nurse is a credit to the ward and also her staff there is nothing any bother to any of them especially during theses difficult times.

We think it’s only fair to leave this review as we have experienced my dad being cared for in lots of other wards and none can even come anywhere near to ward 8.

Other wards should definitely take a look at ward 8 as I think they could definitely learn lots from the way it is run.

Dear Caroletta,

Many thanks for taking the time to post your experience of your dads care while being cared for within ward 8 at University Hospital Wishaw.

The staff will be delighted to read your positive feedback and I will share this with them.

I hope your dad is settled and comfortable.

Once again thanks for your kind words.

Best wishes

Andy

Update posted by Caroletta (a relative)

Thank you for your kind reply but I do hope things change in these other wards due to our family experience and others. I spoke to someone today and was telling them about ward 8 and how in ward 11 my dad would never be treated like he is just now and she said that years ago she had to raise a complaint about how her dad was being treated.

We all understand the pressure but you get told your dad is incontinent because they do not have the time to take him to the toilet also not had a shower in the two weeks of admission that is why ward 8 stands out so much due to all this and things need to change for the better as we have experienced in the past years in these other wards due to my dads ill health.

Hope this helps and things can be changed only for the better.

Dear Caroletta

I am sorry that your experience of care for your father within ward 11 has not been similar to that of ward 8. We strive at all times to deliver a high standard of care and compassion and I can only apologise if this has not happened.

So that I can discuss this with you further I would be grateful if you could contact our patient affairs team either via email at PatientAffairs.Wishaw@lanarkshire.scot.nhs.uk or telephone 01698 366 558

Kind regards

Janice
