I suffered a miscarriage in Nov 2019 and another in April 2020
Both times when I called the surgery for support there was a lack of compassion from the dr I spoke with. Reception staff on the other hand were supportive.
In June 2020 when I called the surgery, the Dr made me feel like I was wasting his time and was rushing to end the call. I didn’t feel comfortable talking with him at all, I wanted to explore my options of fertility treatment. The response I got was “you do not qualify for IVF as you have a child” I didn’t ask for this or suggest it, and am aware I wouldn’t qualify for it. I didn’t call with that expectation.
Both miscarries were horrendous and my miscarriage in April 2020 required surgery 7 weeks after. Had the GP listened to me the miscarry wouldn’t have lasted as long as it did.
I was already feeling emotional and crying on the phone and with the lack of compassion and empathy from the GP left me feeling worse than I had already been feeling.
Im not expecting anything form this, just an awareness for the GP to show some empathy and compassion when it comes to such events. It’s already an emotional a difficult situation, it doesn’t need to be made worse by the people who are in a position to help/support us.
