"My Dad"

About: Broomfield Hospital / Accident and emergency Broomfield Hospital / Cardiology Broomfield Hospital / ENT

(as a relative),

My dad had been on Terling twice, first time he couldn't praise the doctors and staff enough, the second time was different he was very Ill whilst doctors were good and most nursing staff were attentive, sadly my dad wanted all his medication such as Antibiotics going into a pick line into the heart stopped, he had also been having extreme nose bleeds which he had a transfusion and he needed it to be quaterised on numerous occasions, when he stopped them giving antibiotics etc, he went downhill very quickly.

I was present when the doctor said they would see him on the monday which was after that weekend so I was thinking his death was not imminent, I stayed until late in the evening, and asked if they saw any immediate change to call me and I would be there within minutes, sadly this did not happen, the staff should of known when the end of life is near because they would of needed to see to him because he had C diff and sepsis and another infection,

I felt that they wasnt giving him end of life care, he was in a side room and I feel he was left too long on his own. When I got the phone call at 4. 15am I literally took 10 mins ran and ran to be with my Dad, I got to the ward and the nurse said he's passed away, I was allowed in to see my dad, but felt that I was being a nuisance has the doctor gave me a stern look, my self and my dads grown up grandchildren were told to go in to the room, we spent an hour with my dad, and then was told to gather all his things, I feel that the ward let my dad a his family down, if we had known this was going to happen we would never had gone home, I understand that you can never be 100% but was lead to believe he would still be around at least another few days, the doctor had also written down he had a post mortem which I queried and it was a mistake I felt anxious over that on top of not being with him, I will never ever get over the fact I was not there for him.
