"Diagnostic error"

About: Castle Hill Hospital

On being referred by my GP on 2 wk pathway with suspicious lump I was reviewed by 5 staff at the breast clinic. On examination and ultrasound scan I was diagnosed with ‘glandular breast tissue’ and discharged back to my GP to be ‘Breast aware’ with my next mammogram not due for a further ‘2 Years time’. However I was not confident with this diagnosis and undertook a second opinion with a different hospital. The second opinion diagnosed Invasive Breast Cancer that was also heavily lymph node positive! So my experience has been extremely stressful at being effectively given a false negative diagnosis of cancer which has impacted hugely on my mental health and being badly let down. Maybe I was just unlucky as I’m sure many other women and men have had exceptional care.
