"Not being listened to"

About: Lincoln County Hospital / Accident and emergency Lincoln County Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as the patient),

I damaged my knee playing rugby and so went along to the hospital and discharged with a hemotherosis... the pain didn’t get any better and even a brush from my dressing gown hurt it so I knew it wasn’t right. After months and a number of visits to the hospital each time being told there was nothing wrong with me... One doctor actually walked out of the room whilst my wife and I try to tell him the symptoms they finally did an arthroscopy. A bucket handle tear was found but the pain didn’t stop, at this point I was told I just had a low pain threshold. I did pretty well boxing and playing rugby for over 20 years being soft!   It’s 2 years on and all though I’ve now been diagnosed with CRPS I still seem to be ignored, the latest person I saw on entering the room asking is it both knees, which one is it? Surely they read the notes... apparently not, failing that the mottled waxy appearance, swelling and loss of hair on the affected knee should have given it away.

Absolutely disgusted with the treatment I’ve received & is completely unfair on my wife and baby girl who are also suffering through my inability to play or give a respite to, as the pain can be so horrific in the afternoon all I want to do is go to bed and literally not move. I feel so low, even to the point where I genuinely think I’m on the cusp of a mental breakdown.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your comments about the treatment you have received. It is unclear from our story if your experience related directly to our A&E team and if so they would like to apologise We are sorry that your experiences did not meet the high standards we aim for, for all our patients.

We are sorry that you continue to have pain. We are very concerned to hear that the pain is so bad you have felt suicidal. I think it would be best for you to continue to seek the support of your General Practitioner as soon as possible if you feel you cannot cope.
