"US of Salivary Glands (Sjogren's Disease)"

About: Benenden Hospital

I have been having annual scans at Benenden for several years to keep a check on my Sjogren's. I have always had positive feelings afterwards and felt reassured that the findings were clearly and frankly explained to me whilst being scanned. The lady who scanned me last year even took the trouble to show me what her own salivary glands looked like in order to give me a benchmark.

This time the sonographer did not explain anything or give me any feedback. He took only about a third of the time the previous sonographer took and only stated what I already knew - that the glands were shrivelled. He did not seem very familiar with this condition. I do not feel confident that he did a thorough scan. Ideally I would like the scan re-done but not by this person.

This is a frightening and unpleasant disease and I rely on these scans to check that I have no lumps or other issues for concern.
