"Friendly helpful staff at a frightening time"

About: Royal Hallamshire Hospital / Neurology Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust / Emergency ambulance

(as the patient),

I had a stroke and was transferred from Doncaster to Sheffield Hallamshire Hospital ward L2 by blue light. I was extremely vulnerable  and frightened and all the staff were outstanding. Here I am 10 days later back at work. Mady  was the nurse and all the staff could, not have been more helpful of reassuring and understand how frightening it is for the patient.

The nurses work so hard to make everyone as comfortable as poss, and nothing is too much trouble . I can’t explain how grateful I am .

Update posted by Pishadeperro (the patient)

I can only reiterate how fantastic everyone I met were, the stroke nurse at Sheffield Maddie was outstanding.

The care from ward 16 at Doncaster should also be commended, the young staff worked so hard.

The single most frightening part of having a stroke was the vulnerability I felt. I had lost all motor power and was “Snoring” but could nothing to help myself, I could not even make my eyes look up.......The only part I could move was the thumb on my left hand...But the scary thing was, my understanding had not diminished so I understood what was happening and what everyone said... and I could tell by their tone it was not good!

However within three days I was 90% recovered...and within a month was back driving and working...I realise how lucky I was and will always be grateful for the care I received, I never thought just how many people were directly involved in my care, from the Surgeons to the Ambulance driver....and many other who will always be unsung heroes
