"poor response for vulnerable/shielding patients"

About: Westbury on Trym Primary Care Centre

At the beginning of covid19 lockdown I was contacted by the MND Association about the gov.uk list of vulnerable/shielding patients. The list was dependent on GP Practices supplying lists of vulnerable patients. to gov.uk.(I was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease via my GP in 2015). MNDA advised me to contact my GP if gov/uk had not put my name on the national register. I did so, only to be informed that the Practice was not part of the government scheme and could not help me. Subsequently I self- registered on the national list. As a result I was contacted by:-

1) The MND Clinic at Southmead Hospital on 2 occasions to check on my welfare.

2)Gov/uk. acknowledging my registration.

3) Bristol City Council Care Dept. offering support.

4) Supermarkets offering priority deliveries.

At no time did my GP Practice contact me.

Recently I booked a flu jab and enquired about special provision for vulnerable patients. The reply was no special arrangement, just join the queue. The gov/uk site said special provision should be in place.I consider that the GP Practice response is inadequate.

We are very sorry that you have been disappointed in our care at this time. We rang the majority of our shielding patients during lockdown, but unfortunately did not manage to speak to everybody and we apologise that you did not receive this call.

We surveyed a sample of our shielding patients to establish preferences and many were happy to come to a flu clinic in the surgery with all due precautions taken. However for those who would prefer it, we can offer a slot in our car park for shielding patients and will be in touch to offer you one of these.

Once again we are very sorry that you have been disappointed with our care at this difficult time and have taken on board your feedback.
