I attended the gastroeterology clinic for a gastroscopy. I opted for Xylocaine premed. I felt that it had little effect and indicated this to the endoscopist as soon as she started the procedure. Almost immediate intense choking and gagging resulted in the scope having to be removed. I took some time to recover. No additional premed analgesic or sedative was offered, and the procedure was resumed. Again, intense choking and gagging, as well as sever bloating caused by the injected air resulted in the scope having to be removed before the examination could be completed. The only words that I can use to describe how it felt are that it was like extreme torture, and left me with an aching throat for several days.
