"My 75 yr old mother"

About: Ysbyty Glan Clwyd

(as a service user),

My mother is 75 yrs old and she is profoundly deaf.

She visited your surgery a few days ago because she had missed an appointment for a flu jab.

On arrival to the surgery and wearing a face mask, she was greeted by a staff member who was also wearing a face mask.

My mother asked if the staff member could remove their face covering, in order for her to lip read to which the staff member replied NO.

Interpretation was done through pen n paper, but why would you humiliate a frail old pensioner when you’ve got perspex screens dividing you both, and my mother was wearing a mask anyway????

I am very sorry to hear about your mothers recent experience. Can you please contact the Patient Advice & Liaison Support (PALS) Team on 03000 851 234 or via email BCU.PALS@wales.nhs.uk in order for this to be looked into further?
