About: Newbury Group Practice

I’ve been at this practice for many years & after today I have no choice but to leave. Have no

Complaints about the doctors who come & go at this practice at an alarming rate. My problem is with the administration/reception team. Over the years I’ve had a few run ins with staff, have even had doctors complain about them to me during appointments but during a pandemic I find their incompetence intolerable. Attended my gp today for a smear test only to be told that my appointment was booked for another day. I explained that I never made an appointment for the day they had me down for & asked what time they had me booked for. Was told it was for 4pm which is not a time I would ever agree to since I’m on the school run therefore staff must have made a mistake regarding my appointment. So, after explaining to them that this screw up was not on considering I now found myself in a doctors surgery during a pandemic for no reason I tried to re organise my smear to be asked if I would attend an appointment on another day at 9am. Baffled as to what part of “...I do the school run..” this individual did not understand I was promptly informed that if I didn’t want the appointment then go home call in and make another. We all know how difficult that can be & trust me it took me 3 separate calls, having been told that there were no appointments, to finally get an appointment with the nurse. Getting increasingly irate a member of staff, without a mask on, approached me & took down my details in order to prioritise an appointment. It was the best I could get & all I really wanted considering the fault lay with whomever had made the appointments in the first place. I certainly should not have been told to go home & call in & certainly should not have been approached by a member of staff without a mask. I’ve watched the administrative team turn on patients without masks, I’ve seen one in particular treat patients who have either turned up a bit earlier for an appointment or who are waiting for cabs who have difficulties walking be turfed out of the premises in an inhumane manner. Im not holding my breath for my rescheduled appointment. My only option is to leave.
