I was taken to university hospital hairmyers by ambulance last week as I go completely paralyzed down my right side with these migraines, which also mimics a stroke, it would normally correct itself but after several hours being stuck in terrible pain & paralysis, my family called an ambulance as they were worried it was a stroke.
I was left in the waiting room for 3hrs with no way of communicating with anyone, unable to walk, get pain relief or go to the toilet. After over 3 hours I was taken to a cubicle with bright lights & noise that was overbearing for someone with chronic migraine, I started to slowly get some function back & called my partner to come & get me, still hadn't seen a doctor, it was degrading and extremely frightening, this is the second time I've been treated like this at hairmyers. I was left feeling as if I was a burden.
I receive 39 injections of botox for chronic migraines, I am also high risk of stroke & we all know how urgent it is to treat someone having a stroke (FAST), there was nothing fast about treating me, I dont ask for special treatment, just that your staff are more aware of chronic migraine & how debilitating it is, simple things like putting the patient in a dark quiet room, its not that hard but would make such a difference, I hope I never need to be in hairmyers again, I was left feeling embarrassed, angry & it has put me off ever getting help again.
