Having never experienced anxiety before, I woke up one night feeling very anxious. I heard voices in my head telling me to kill myself. The voices were even telling me how to do it, specific methods, over and over. I phoned the NHS 111 service where I was told someone would contact me within 20 minutes. I phoned 4 times before I spoke to someone. I was unhappy with one of the responses who said they were due to go off shift shortly and was not able to help me. I hung up and phoned again.
This time I was taken to the Northern General Hospital where I saw 2 women and they listened to me for a very long time. They were very good. A consultant came to see me as well and he gave me details about an app called ‘Feeling Good’ to listen to. There’s 12 different pieces to listen to. You listen to the first one for about 6 times, then the second one for 6 times and so on, and I got to say these helped me a lot. They calm you right down and I feel much better now, 90% better. I take my meds from my GP and meditate every day.
A lady called Felicity from the Trust came to see me at home and gave me some leaflets. She also told me about the 4-5-6 breathing technique. I wish I could remember Felicity’s surname and where in the Trust she was from as I would really like to thank her. She also gave me some numbers to contact a helpline number and a number for SPA. I would use IAPT again.
