"My 81 year old dads care"

About: Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Accident & emergency Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Intensive care unit Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Stroke care Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance

(as a relative),

My dad experienced A moderate stroke on Thursday and ambulance was called and arrived at his home within 20 minutes. The two para medics were excellent, quick, efficient and very caring towards my parents and myself , their assessment of my dad‘s condition and his quick transport to hospital with the doctor waiting allowed  my dad to be assessed for the stroke protocol for thrombolytic  therapy , I was anxious and scared as a nurse I was aware of the severity of my dad’s condition.

Due to covid  19 I was not allowed to accompany my dad but the consultant phoned me to discuss my dad’s condition and to advise of the treatment recommended. Following the treatment in A&E my dad has transferred to ICU ,where he spent the night, dad’s named Nurse in ICU  was Connor and unfortunately I don’t know Spanish nurses name , but they both gave me updates  on my father’s progress  that reassured me, my dad said the care he received was excellent he describes his treatment as miracle cure and said that his care was excellent.

In the morning he was transferred to Ward B21 again he was provided excellent care , doctor kept me fully informed of his progress and to my delight told me I could take my dad home. I was delighted on my arrival at the ward to see my dad ,walking around ,relaxed and joking with staff( big shout out to Lynn).

So within 24 hours my dad went from having a stroke rated 5 to walking out the ward a very happy man .

All we can say as a family is that we are soooooooo grateful for the prompt, efficient ,excellent care my father received.

Forth Valley Royal the NHS at its best 💕

Dear Jimmys daughter,

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback on Care Opinion. I am sorry to read that you and your father had reason to use our services and NHS Forth Valley. Seeing your dad have a stroke must have been terrifying. I hope that your dad is feeling a lot better now and on the road to a full recovery.

I am however really pleased with the feedback you have provided for all the care staff and in particular, our crew. It is clear that they acted with the professionalism that we expect and I would love to pass on your kind comments. If you would be open to it, can you email my team at Scotamb.feedback@nhs.net and provide the date, rough time and address that we attended your dad along with his name? I would also be very grateful if you could make refere3nce to your Care Opinion username to allow the team to link your email to this story.

Thanks again for your feedback and please give your dad my best wishes.

Kind Regards

Alan

Dear Jimmy's daughter,

Thanks for your lovely feedback to the ITU staff, and for mentioning the individual staff nurses that your dad remembers during his stay here.

May we pass on our best wishes to your dad and we wish him a speedy recovery.

Dear Jimmy's daughter,

What a lovely thing to post, thank you. I've passed it on to our Senior Charge Nurse in the Stroke Unit in B21 who'll share it with the rest of the staff. With everything else going on at the moment to have your Dad suffer a stroke must've been terrifying and so stressful! The whole team are delighted that he's made such a good recovery. Please pass on our warm wishes to him and your family.
