"Excellent care received by dad"

About: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Renal and Transplant Services (Ward 4a, 4d)

(as a relative),

Dad was admitted to Ward 4A at QEUH at the end of July this year. This was not his first admission to the Unit.  As before the clinical care received from the medical team, nurses and AHPs was excellent and recognising the issues with his hearing everyone took time to explain everything to him.

The added challenge on this admission was one designated visitor, which was myself. Dad has always been very sociable and loves/needs company.    Through lockdown mum and dad struggled not being able to see all the grand children ( and us children!!). The conversations  with staff  were so important to him and everyone in the team spent time chatting with him.  This had a very positive impact and played a big part in his recovery. Dad also likes his routine and everyone in the ward was so kind to him - helping him shave, extra cups of tea when he had  fallen asleep and his got cold.  Nothing was a bother.

The Facilities Team also played their part, keeping the ward clean to high standard – and they too  were great at chatting with dad.

I also want to thank the nursing staff for the support they gave to me during this time.  Visiting every day, I did feel like one of the family and I got a full update on how that day had been – which I could share with the rest of the family.

Dad was recently transferred to Victoria Unit for rehab – and the staff there are building on the great work at QEUH.

Thank you  to everyone in Ward 4A from all our family:  keep up the hard work – and keep chatting with your patients – it means so much

Dear Jackie 2,

Thank you for taking the time to post this lovely response at what has clearly been a difficult time for you with your dad being in hospital.

The multi disciplinary team in Ward 4A will be delighted to hear that you appreciated the care your dad recently received. They are committed to a high standard of person centred care and ensuring patients individual needs are met. I'm not surprised to hear they spent time chatting with your dad and kept his spirits up, so this is lovely to hear!

We appreciate the challenges around restricted visiting at this time and the extra worry this can have. The team have been ensuring additional communication with loved ones at this time. I will also feedback to Senior Charge Nurse Phinn how helpful you found the updates from her nursing team.

Thank you again for sharing this feedback with us which I will share widely with the 4A team and Facilities colleagues. I wish your dad well with his continued rehabilitation in the Victoria AcH.

Kind Regards

Elaine Burt
