"Refusing pain relief prescription 6 days post op by gp"

About: General practices in Lanarkshire

(as the patient),

I had a tear in my hip joint and a bone spur that was causing symptoms, back in December 19 I had my dihydrocodeine 30mg 8 times daily stopped abruptly by GP, after having a fight with them managed to get slow release 60 mg dihydrocodeine. They stopped it back then as I was due operation they stopped as they stated I was max out on pain relief and had nothing to go on once I had operation .., roll on 3rd September 20,   I had my operation 4 incisions, demure shaved, ligament cut and hip joint and ball shaved also found I was riddled in arthritis, was given a weeks supply of dihydrocodeine by the hospital and was told to get another week supply from GP, it’s now the 9th of September I have 2 pain killers left, I think one of my incisions are infected as swollen and red and in a lot of pain. Phone GP told by reception staff I would have a GP phone me back ... a receptionist phoned me back and said “DR says if you wish to query pain relief you need a routine appointment I can give you one on the 30th of September.... I told the women what was wrong and was met with “nothing I can do” hung the phone up .., this the only GP in my catchment area, so now having to wait till 6 pm and go to minor injuries. I’m heart broken, I’m in agony, I feel helpless, 6 days after major hip surgery where my leg is dislocated to allow them to work on hip joint and I can’t even get pain relief off a GP nor even speak to a GP

Dear Mrs Wh

Firstly thank you very much for sharing your feedback on Care Opinion. I am sorry to read of the difficulties you have experienced with your GP practice and that you have been in pain since your surgical procedure. From your post it is clear that you are feeling very vulnerable and are experiencing a lot of pain and discomfort and I am sorry this has been your experience.

GP’s are independent contractors and are responsible for investigating and responding to any concerns a person may have about their service; they are not registered to respond directly to feedback through Care Opinion. I'd invite you to contact the Practice Manager if you'd like a direct response about the service you experienced.

I very much hope that your issues can be resolved to your satisfaction and that you can begin the recovery process in more comfort.

Best wishes

Lesley
