When we arrived, our niece wasn't on the unit. We were leaving when we met her coming in, so we were put into the family room. There were other patients standing outside the window, shouting and smoking. It was quite an unpleasant environment. Our niece has been in the unit for about 3 weeks and she still has not had a new diagnosis. She took us to her bed space and on the walk to it the floor was disgustingly dirty and the ward was not much better.

On the positive side the Deputy Ward Manager took a great deal of time to talk to us and was very informative. All in all I was disappointed with the care and cleanliness I witnessed in the unit.

Thank you for your time to write and tell us about your experience.

Stanage Ward have a plan in place for the ward to be smoke free by 21st September, this is work in progress at this present time. Staff are working very hard to create a safe and clean environment. Stanage ward had an unplanned independent cleaning audit recently, the results were very positive about the environment. We have clear daily cleaning schedules in place for Stanage, with regular audits to check standards, we are sorry on this occasion, it appeared that you were not happy with the environment.

We have some restrictions to the garden area at present, whilst some new fencing is erected to support service user safety at MCC.

It is always pleasing to hear that staff offer compassionate and considerate support to service users and relatives, thank you for your kind feedback.
