My son and I came to the A and E Department after he had a fall and landed awkwardly on his arm, which I suspected was broken. From the moment we booked in, the staff were amazing, really compassionate, listened to my son and were very patient with him. Despite the mask wearing due to Covid, they really tried to build a relationship with him, and he engaged with the staff confidently. This is especially difficult for him, as he has social anxiety and a stammer, however he felt at ease throughout. Special mention to the staff at X-Ray, who were so gentle and encouraging with him, putting him and therefore me at ease. We were seen quickly, all staff communicated appropriately and respected that my son could speak for himself, and didn't speak over him as if he wasn't there, as I have found before at other hospital appointments. When they informed us that his arm was indeed broken they let him see the X-ray and ask any questions. Overall, an amazing experience through a scary time for him, and the staff deserve to be highly praised!
