"Heart attack"

About: University Hospital Hairmyres / Cardiology University Hospital Wishaw / Cardiology (Ward 4)

(as the patient),

Hi, let me first say this not a complaint per say. I experienced a massive heart attack a few weeks ago, I was taken to Hairmyres, where I had a stent put in. But during the procedure I asked if someone could mop my brow as the sweat was pouring down as I was obviously very anxious.  Nobody wiped it I tried to sit up to do it myself and was immediately held down (not in a bad way) and was told please keep still you have something in your heart. I thought they were just putting something in my wrist not knowing it was an angioplasty.

Surely I should have been informed and if there were more nurses available someone could have told me and reassured me and mopped my brow to keep me calm as I went through this procedure. The doctor told me that because it was 01-30 in the morning that fewer nurses were there due to cut backs. I have nothing but praise for all the doctors and nurses that I came into contact with both at Hairmyres and Wishaw ccu thank them unreservedly.   As I said earlier this not a complaint as such but a recommendation for another nurse to attend to the needs of the patient to keep them calm during an extremely stressful situation.

Hi Miff

Firstly let me say I am sorry to hear how unwell you have been recently. I really appreciate you taking time to provide us with feedback.

As I do not have case specific details I cant comment on the urgency in which you were admitted however given the timeline and information you have provided it appears that your case was quite urgent.

I am sorry your experience wasn't great when undergoing your procedure and I know this would have been a very stressful time for you, I know it may provide little comfort to you at this time given your experience however I am pleased to say that we are hoping to recruit in the near future to increase nursing staff overnight.

I hope you continue to recover well.

Angela
