"My babies reflux nightmare"

About: Royal Aberdeen Children's Hospital / Medical Paediatrics (Children's Medicine)

(as a service user),

I just wanted to come on here and say after seeing so many doctors and being told various things I came to Aberdeen children’s a and e and was met by a Dr Sarah. If it wasn’t for covid I would have hugged her. She left me in tears but tears of happiness. My baby is 3 weeks old and has been showing signs of severe silent reflux.

My other child had this so I knew the signs after 3 trips to Gp and 2 trips to A and E where one doc told me I was over feeding my baby which turns out not to be true so when I reduced him like this doctor told me to I caused my baby more upset. I was ready to give up.

My baby screamed for over 6 hours only stopping to feed I called the hospital again and Dr Sarah told me to come up. It took a while to see her as she was very busy as she was the on call paediatrician.

She came and looked at my baby listened to me and agreed with me she also said she would be happy to start my baby on medicine! She then asked me how I was to which I broke as I was exhausted. She admitted us there for me to have some rest and my son to have his first dose of medication.

I thank you so so much. I also would like to thank the staff on the ward that night especially Lorna who fed my son and let me rest I am truly grateful.

Dear Jen666xxx

Thank you so much for taking time to leave such lovely feedback on care opinion.

It sounds like you have had a very difficult time with you baby. Reflux can be so distressing for babies and it can be awful for parents to watch and be unable to do what they so want which is to make things better. I am so glad that you have received the help and support you and your baby required through your attendance at the children's hospital and hope that there has been some improvement with the medication.

Sarah, Lorna and the staff will be delighted to see that they have made such an impact and I will ensure that they receive a copy of your feedback

Thank you again
