I'm trying to get back on the contraceptive pill after a break of about 5 years.
I got a telephone appointment in which they asked me to fill out a questionnaire and email it back - one of the questions was "blood pressure reading (if known)" which I didn’t fill out because I have no way of checking and the phrasing of the question suggests it isn’t compulsory to answer, but apparently this was required - so I had a nurse ring afterwards to tell me this. She then suggested that I needed to buy a monitor to give the reading.
It's pretty galling to have to tell a stranger who works for a taxpayer funded organisation that you can’t currently afford what she is suggesting, but it was her attitude that really upset me. She seemed put out by my refusal and kept telling me they'd need to have a 'rethink' at the surgery, as if it was my fault, and again was repeatedly pushing the idea that I buy a monitor.
After more back and forth phone-calls the week afterwards, I went in for a reading at the surgery, resubmitted the survey with the blood pressure readings and have heard nothing back for 4 days after which I've just had to chase again.
It seems chaotic and disorganised even for during a pandemic and I can tell that as soon as I've rung or emailed in my request goes to the bottom of the pile or never reaches anyone at all, which then prompts me days later to chase. Contraception is preventative care rather than life saving medicine, I understand that, but it's been dragging on for two weeks and I believe what I'm asking for is fairly time sensitive, so overall I feel very let down by what I found previously to be a great surgery.
"Disappointing"
