I had a radical hysterectomy in June 2020 at Glasgow Royal Infirmary. Due to the expertise of Dr Lindsay and Mr Hendry My bladder was saved and I healed quickly. I wanted to thank the multidisciplinary team at GRI including the singing porter and the calming, competent theatre team. The anaesthetic team were so kind whilst preparing me for potentially complex surgery. The nursing team in ward 56 led by Carole, Charge Nurse were excellent.
Walking into ward 56 on the day of surgery without emotional support from my husband was daunting but I was welcomed and reassured by Staff Nurse Gemma. Although her services were not needed post op I appreciated the care from Elaine, Specialist Stoma Nurse. I would like to thank Ange, Support Nurse (I never thought I could accept assistance to bathe but Ange was so caring and discreet).
I particularly feel thankful for the support when discharged from Specialist Nurse Margaret.
I felt safe during my admission and aside from no visitors and mask clad professionals COVID did not cause me undue concern. This additional dimension was well handled by the GRI teams.
