My mum has dementia, but is lucky enough attend Mount Oriel Day Centre five days a week where she is really well looked after, stimulated and cared for. As a result of the dementia, things do not 'always' go smoothly, however the staff have always been friendly, supportive, adaptive and understanding of both her needs and our needs as carers.
Since the centre has had to close because of lock down, the staff have continued to be attentive to both mum and myself with regular phone calls and updates, and packs which included mums favourite activities posted through her door to help keep her occupied and stimulated.
Being in lock down and working from home when you have a relative who has dementia and who has lost their main source of interaction and stimulation has not been easy. Recognising that, the staff in Mount Oriel have done everything within their control and offered us every support to help make the situation easier for all of us, and for that we are all extremely grateful.
