One Saturday in August I was spending the night with my elderly mother (90 yrs). She has a range of medical issues including COPD and asthma. In the early hours of Sunday morning she started to have an asthma attack - it was probably the worse that I have ever witnessed with her - very frightening.

I contacted the OOH GP service and spoke with a Nurse Practitioner 'Helen' - who was fantastic - really supportive and reassuring. Helen talked me through treatment options, at 90 yrs I really wanted to avoid having my mother admitted to hospital, given her vulnerability to cv-19. Helen contacted me at least 3 times during the night as I administered ventolin via a nebuliser. I found her approach to be so helpful, I really felt as though I was not 'on my own'. Thank you Helen - you're a star!

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave this very invaluable feedback about our Out of Hours (OOH) GP service and our Nurse Advisor, Helen. The manager in charge of OOH had already personally passed on your feedback to Helen. The Manager says that “it is a glowing tribute of her professionalism and dedication to the patients”. It is so reassuring during these difficult times to hear that the support you received during that night helped you to provide the care for your mother.

We understand that providing a caring role can at times be frightening especially when they become unwell but with your support and the guidance of Helen you certainly did the very best for your mother. I hope that your mother is now doing well and thank you again.

Kind regards

Mairead
