About: Portishead Medical Group

I called to book telephone appointment after injuring my lower back, the injury had left me unable to get up off the floor and all I needed was some advice, the receptionist advised me there was no appointments for for that day and to call back tomorrow ( no advice to call 111 or seak any other medical advice just wait on the bathroom floor till 8:00 the next morning and try for a telephone appointment then) after another 2 hours on the floor I decided to call 111 to see if they could give me any advice they were amazing and clearly went through my symptoms and decided the best corse was to call me an ambulance, the ambulance arrived and with help from gas and air and 2 paramedics I was able to get up and make it to my bed, they were also fantastic.

Dispute taking paracetamol and ibuprofen for the rest of the day I was still in too much pain to get out of bed, so at 8 the next morning I call portishead medical group again and I eventually got through to another receptionist she was equally unhelpful stating I wasn’t registered with them and I would need to go to there website, print off a form and then scan it and email back to them or come and post it through the letterbox and until I did this I would not be able to get an appointment. I appreciate the practice is very busy and these are unprecedented times but I’ve been made to feel completely uncared for. If they treat all their patients how they have treated me I’m surprised they have any left

I am very sorry to hear your comments.

I understand from your description that you are not a registered patient here at Portishead Medical Group and that you needed urgent help. In this case, calling 111 (or even 999) is absolutely the right approach and I'm glad that they were able to help you.

Our reception team were right to ask you to complete a registration form (as either a permanent patient or a temporary resident) because we need certain details to provide safe advice. It is possible to do this remotely to save you from having to come into the surgery.

I am however sorry that we did not give you helpful advice over the phone and apologise that this was the case.
