"Still waiting for surgery"

About: Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust - Queen's Medical Centre Campus / General surgery

(as a service user),

My surgery was cancelled due to the Covid pandemic nearly 5months ago. I have heard nothing from the hospital. I rang and spoke to a secretary today, I was bluntly told after I'd mentioned reading about the hospital performing 'urgent' operations in lockdown and how they are restarting services  'we aren't doing yours and we aren't doing anybody else's.' I was told no day case surgery is taking place and I was told my GP's recent referrals 'won't make a difference.'

Why have they made out they are restarting services, when they aren't? None of it's true. They try to look good in the press, yet just leave patients like me to suffer. I have been waiting months and months but they don't show any care about the pain I am in.  I think they need to realise they have other patients besides those with cancer and those (if any) with Covid. Absolute shambles.

Thank you for your feedback. We understand your frustration with the situation you describe in your post, and we apologise for the way you were spoken to when you contacted the department to ask about your surgery.

The COVID-19 pandemic has meant reducing or stopping many non-emergency NHS services. We are now starting to see patients again, although the need to maintain safe social distancing means that we cannot see the same number of patients in a clinic as before. We appreciate this is a difficult time for patients who have been left without clear news about their planned operations.

We would be happy to look into this for you further but will need more information to do so. If you would like to, please contact the Patient Experience Team on 0115 924 9924 ext 86623 or email QMCPET so we can talk further about your concerns.

Kind regards

Simon Parsons

Divisional Director of Surgery
