"Compassion they showed us was amazing"

About: Kilbryde Hospice

(as a relative),

My mum was in Kilbryde Hospice for 13 days before she passed away and I will never be able to thank the staff enough.

I was so scared when she went to the hospice, especially given that everything was restricted due to Covid. The staff were amazing from the minute we arrived, taking care of mum, , treating her with respect and also taking care of the family and keeping us updated. They made us feel like we were part of a family at the hospice and although I hated leaving her at night I knew she was well cared for.

The respect and care they showed her on the day she passed will stay with me forever and the compassion they showed us was amazing.

Dear Family62

First, may I express my sincere condolences to you and the extended family on the death of your Mum. Thank you for taking this time to tell us of your experience under our care. As Clinical Services Manager, I am glad that you felt the staff and volunteers were "amazing" - I think our staff and volunteers are amazing too but its lovely to hear it coming from you.

We have had to change our practices owing to COVID- 19 to conform with Scottish Government guidance and I can imagine that this must have been frightening for all of you prior to admission. I am glad we managed to work through this with you, to keep your Mum and you safe, while protecting our staff and volunteers.

I will make sure that your very positive feedback is circulated to all staff and volunteers working in our inpatient unit and behind the scenes. This will give them a boost during these challenging times.

Take care of yourself in the coming months and if we can be of any further assistance to you in the future please do not hesitate to call us.

Kind regards

Margaret Mary Cowan

Clinical Services Manager
