"MFather in Laws stay in A&E and CAU"

About: Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance University Hospital Ayr / Accident & Emergency University Hospital Ayr / Combined Assessment Unit (CAU)

(as a relative),

My father in Law was rushed to Ayr Hospital with suspected Covid. He was on a visit to us from Wales. On the Friday morning, we had to call for an ambulance due to him having severe breathing difficulties. The ambulance response was almost immediate and the care provided by the paramedics was amazing. Although we couldn't go with him, we felt assured that he was in good hands and would be well cared for. He was admitted to A&E  and was placed in the care of an excellent team. Although I don't know the names of all the nursing staff, I do know that the telephone contact we had with Connor, was above and beyond his nursing training. He was a godsend at reassuring us and we were confident that my father in law was being excellently cared for.

Fortunately, the covid results were negative and he was moved to another nursing team to be cared for in the yellow zone, where he was under the watchful caring eye of Maggy and her team. Once again, I cannot relay how well he was looked after and cared for. My father in law is recovering well and continually praising the hospital and the staff who attended him.

My husband and I cannot possibly thank everyone enough for what they did for us. Not only did they lovingly care for my father in law, they cared for us too by reassuring us, talking to us and making sure that we knew he was in good hands.

In a very strange world, in very strange times, the professionalism, care, and attention provided by the staff in these departments has to be praised and commended.

THANK YOU NHS!!!

Dear relieved in law

Thank you very much for the kind words and appreciation for the service your father in law, and the rest of your family received when he had taken unwell, and I am glad to hear is on the road to recovery.

During these strange times as you say, it can add to the worry and apprehension about any illness and being admitted to hospital only adds to this, therefore I am so pleased that the whole care team made a difficult time a little easier.

It always pleases me when the level of professionalism and patient care we strive for from our staff is demonstrated, and it always means a great deal to the crews when they receive words of appreciation such as this.

I would be keen to share your thanks with the ambulance crew personally and if this would be okay with you I would just need a little more information. All I would need is the name of your father in law, the date of the incident and the address we attended. If you could send this to me at pmcaleer@nhs.net I will ensure the crew receive this.

Many thanks and take care

Phil.
