"Absence of gluten-free options"

My husband is currently in UHC and is becoming increasingly frustrated that what he selects on a menu is not what actually is presented to him as the menu does not list what options are actually gluten free. This in turn often results in having a completely different menu and may include items he does not eat/enjoy.

He was in hospital 4 years ago and experienced the same problem. His stay was short do did not have a big impact however this time his stay is going to be lengthy and given food is such a motivator would like to see if this could be addressed.

Dear Mrs Gluten Free

I was sorry to hear of your concerns. The Catering Manager for East and North has provided the response below. I hope you find it helpful:

"Thank you for your comment and I am sorry that you feel you are husband was unable to obtain a GF diet, as the Catering Services do provide many GF diets, once they had been made aware of the patient in a ward who requires that type of diet.

When we became aware of your husband requests last week, I personally met with the patient and agreed menu’s. As a result of our discussion, we are using this learning to develop and trial a bespoke folder, based on our existing patient menu’s, to identify what menu options we are able to modify for Gluten Free patients. The GF menu folder would be available for our colleagues at ward level to give to any patient that requires Gluten free choices. "
