"Inept receptionists"

About: Paddock and Longwood Family Practice

After a series of bad experiences with the admin staff of this practice I have decided to find a new GP. They have an emergency telephone number for "emergencies" - now if I have an emergency I phone 999 not the surgery - I had diarrhoea for well over a week so phoned the emergency line at the surgery thinking I might have cancer! - the receptionist told me it wasn't an emergency and told me to phone back on the other line when it opened 15 minutes later which I did like a scolded schoolboy - so if you phone their "emergency line" with what they class as an emergency do they just tell you to phone 999? The receptionist told me that she wasn't qualified to comment on a persons symptoms so how can she tell me it wasn't an emergency?!! But that isn't the only reason I'm leaving - that was just one example of their ineptness.

Thank you for your feedback and we are sorry to hear you feel it necessary to find a new GP practice. The emergency line is used for patients that are having a heart attack or stroke, something of a life threatening nature as a rule.

I would be more than happy to arrange a meeting with you to discuss this further confidentially. If you would like to ring the practice and ask for the Practice Manager Sue Lewis I am more than happy to discuss this further.

If you feel this is not an option, once again we apologise and wish you well.

Susan Lewis Practice Manager
