"My Dads stay at the local Hospice"

About: Kilbryde Hospice

(as a carer),

My dad was transferred to the Kilbryde Hospice for pain management after spending a few nights in the local hospital. The care and support he received from the hospice was second to non from the minute he was admitted he was made to feel at home and cared for immediately. They discussed with both of us his treatment and how the staff would support him during his stay I was also made to feel welcome during visits. The consultant phoned to arrange a suitable to discuss my dads continuous care she reassured me that he would stay at the hospice until his pain was under control.

On his date on discharge another complication came up and he remained in the hospice for another five days. Again I was always kept up to date on his care, what an amazing team the hospice has my dad used to attend daycare at the hospice and all the staff that he knew from daycare made sure they came in to see him and have a wee chat and laugh with him they kept his spirits up. A huge thank you to a truly amazing team I don’t know what we would have done without you in such a stressful time.

My dad also has MND which makes his communication hard but everyone made an effort to understand him thank you everyone especially Lindsay for reassuring me and my Dad, Lizanne for all the laughs, to the very caring Susanne the hospice consultant you have a fantastic bed side manner and to all the nurses your are all Stars and definitely Heroes in our eyes thank you from the bottom of our hearts

Dear Lynnpinny

Its was lovely to receive this very postitive post from you on Care Opinion. As Clinical Services Manager at Kilbryde Hospice its very reassuring to hear that our care was "second to none" and that you were made to feel welcome during your visits. Kilbryde has cared for your Dad on several occasions at Day Services and I am glad the staff were able to see him. We recognised that he had been very unwell in the preceding weeks it was fortunate that we had an awareness of his needs to best provide the care in our Inpatient Unit.

You mention that you felt that Kilbryde staff kept you updated on your Dad's admission prior to his arrival. This is vital as I can imagine that this must have been a very anxious time for both of you. I'm glad you felt the communication channels were maintained. With the challenges of COVID-19 we are sometimes limited so to hear you felt informed is reassuring to me.

You mention Susan, Lynsay and Lizanne personally. Thank you for taking the time to do this. I will ensure that this personal feedback is given to them - during these challenging times this will give them a boost.

Lynnpinny I completely agree with you - our entire team of staff and volunteers across Kilbryde Hospice working in clinical and non-clinical roles are "stars and heroes". I will pass this feedback onto them.

Please pass on my regards to your Dad

Kind regards

Margaret Mary Cowan

Thank you for your reply Margaret Mary it’s really appreciated and I will pass your best wishes on to my Dad who is recovering slowly.

This last episode has taken a lot out of him physically but he is getting there thanks to the amazing care received recently.
