"Very concerned"

About: University Hospital Monklands / Gastroenterology (Ward 10)

(as the patient),

I have returned to ward 17 as I have been an inpatient previously and got professional care but on this occasion it has taken one bad apple in the staff to make me feel very concerned the level of care and professionalism within their team.

I felt I was spoken down to like a child and I was refused assistance from the staff member in question with a very bad attitude and a heavy chip on their shoulder making personal comments and claiming that they "know what I am capable of" as they knew all about me in my notes - bearing mind this was the first time I ever seen this member of staff and not even gave me the courtesy of saying their name when they introduced themselves.

I have since written a letter of complaint - please understand this was one bad experience and the majority of staff would do everything to help or assist anyone.

Dear Curdy

I am very saddened to read your post on Care Opinion. This is certainly not the experience we would want any patients to have in one of our wards.

I would really like to talk to you over the phone and would appreciate if you feel able for you to contact me via switchboard on 01236 748748 and ask for my extension number 404401.

As the Senior Nurse for Ward 17, I will ensure your post is shared with the team and we will try to understand what happened on this occasion. I would like to offer my sincere apologies for your experience.

Kind regards

Eileen

Returning To Wd 17 inpatient

Having had to return to wd 17 Monklands Hospital at the start of September 2020 I was delighted to see my comments impacted positively on the ward upon speaking to senior staff nurses Eileen over the phone and Donna in person it looks like there has been some changes and better procedures to implement going forward. Thank you to the Senior staff in Wd17 and to Care Opinion for giving me the platform to share my initial concerns.
