"Multiple Trauma"

About: Inclusion Thurrock (Talking Therapies)

(as the patient),

I had suffered multiple Trauma's. from child sexual abuse over a prolonged period of time to various work related traumas being attacked, threatened.

Abusive partner

loss of a baby

Alcoholism within the family

These were incidents I thought I had come to terms with but hadn't dealt with and a relatively small thing happened in comparison and all of my thoughts fears came flooding in like a waterfall of emotion.

I felt like I couldn't trust anything or anyone

It took a long time to go to the Doctors and accept therapy, I started with CBT, I then got diagnosed with PTSD and had Trauma CBT in the midst of all of this I moved so local authority changed so had to start over,

I started again with Trauma CBT and then EMDR

My local authority didn't have a limit on sessions which helped so much EMDR worked really well for me

Dear Janeybeach,

I’m sorry to hear that you’ve been through so much. It is common to be able to function through traumatic experiences but for the effects to take hold later on.

It can be so hard to ask for help, especially when you feel on one can be trusted, but I’m glad that you were able to get to a point where you felt ready to take that step.

It is unfortunate that you had to start therapy over again in a new service as a result of moving, but it sounds like the EMDR therapy was helpful in the end. You’re right, local authorities differ in their services and we are so lucky that we are able to offer clients flexibility with the number of sessions they need, rather than a predetermined number of sessions.

Thank you for sharing your experience and good luck for the future,

Chloe Anderson.
