"Brilliant professionals but, under pressure with…"

I came into Derby in June 20 for a potential complicated C-Section to have my third child. The Dr's, the pre care the surgical team were in my opinion outstanding! After having previous children in other hospitals, I rate my care here the highest! I had great, friendly and professional care throughout.

However, I have to acknowledge, the lack of extra support for the midwifes and wards after coming out of theatre in the absence of a birthing partner. I appreciate this is not something which, the midwifes probably have control of directly because this is staffing levels but, I was left, not being able to move after major surgery without supervision and to care for my newborn once back on the ward. This scared me and, i kept thinking for 'first time moms' who weren't as experienced. It was unsettling and stressful and I was worried I'd drop or hurt the baby due to my body not responding.

It occurred to be how much we rely on birthing partners and what an asset they are in themselves - passing baby, holding baby, talking to mom etc.

The ward was clearly very busy and, it took a long time to get responses from the bell. Again, the midwifes/health assistants were amazing when they came but, they were stretched- this was clear to see. Although, no-one actually said this!

I would definitely recommend this hospital however, I would suggest they need support with Covid-19 during the time birthing partners aren't allowed. It is a shame as everything else was very good!

I hope this review gets to someone who can make changes in such a odd, exceptional world we currently find ourselves in.
