I have an ongoing heart condition, but woke up in March with a pain in my leg which led to a lower that normal blood pressure for me. We called 999 who dispatched an ambulance to me.
They arrived at our house and were more worried about the low blood pressure than my leg (my main concern) they put 2 bags of fluid through me and with no improvement took me to Lincoln A& E. Upon arrival there more fluids were administered to me. At no point did anyone look at my leg.
I was then transferred to MEASU and several lines were inserted to me for cannula access. I believe more fluids were administered without a thought if my kidneys and the effect on their function. No catheter was inserted at this pont.
The next this I remember is waking up 2 or 3 days later in intensive care with my kidneys being filtered and a bandaged leg. I believe my body had shut down due to the water overload and then the pains in my leg had come out as blisters.
I spent 4 days in intensive care while my kidneys recovered and I cannot fault the care I received there. It was very good care and a nurse called Zoult who stood out to me as going above and beyond the role I would have expected to both me and my family.
I was duly moved to CCU in Lincoln and discharged to Papworth from there for a heart transplant assessment. Again the care I received in CCU was what I would have expected.
