I would like to thank the amazing gynaecology surgeon who operated on me on the 15th June to remove a giant ovarian cyst. He was very compassionate and really listened to me and promised to do his best to only remove the cyst and my right ovary leaving my womb and left ovary intact but he was also very clear that it might not be possible as it would all depend on what he found once he opened me up.
I was in such bad condition when I was admitted that the surgeon could not properly examine me until I was sedated so he was unable to tell me in advance whether I would be undergoing keyhole or open surgery but he explained what each option would entail and patiently answered all of my questions.
In theatre the surgeon decided that it was necessary to perform open surgery on me and he made the smallest possible incision across my bikini line, roughly 5 inches. Unfortunately, he discovered a second cyst on my left ovary and was forced to remove both of my ovaries. I wasn’t upset about this change of plan because he had prepared me for this possibility before I went to theatre.
I realise it’s early days, it is only two and a half weeks since my operation but I feel fantastic all the incontinence and other cyst related issues have gone and I have got my life back. I would really recommend this fantastic gynaecologist to anyone suffering from ovarian cysts.
"Thank you!"
