"First Class Ophthalmology Department"

About: Lister Hospital

I am prone to Iritis as a sub condition from my Ankylosing Spondylitis; I have had both for well over 40 years. It flares up quickly and has to be dealt with promptly to avoid permanent damage to my eyes. I used to attend Moorfields but living in North Herts has made this more difficult. Two years ago I had an emergency eye issue which I had dealt with in hospital in Pakistan and on my return discovered that there was a fully staffed Ophthalmology dept at Lister, which I did not know of previously. I was seen the same day, extraordinarily by a doctor who originally came from Pakistan!

My Iritis has returned twice since and each time I have attended Lister. I can only say that on each occasion (usually two or three visits per incident) my care has been exceptional. I have nothing but praise for the department, from the consultants and doctors, and the well organised machine that has kept my appointments on time and on schedule even in these most difficult times that we are going through at present. Its also good that my wife can come in with me as its better to have a second person to recall all the information that the consultant tells you.

I travel a lot, and regrettably have been in hospitals all over the world for this condition - but I rate Lister's Ophthalmology dept staff as the highest standard, public or private. Thank you.
