"No response to relatives of dying patient "

About: Princess Royal University Hospital (Orpington)

My Mother was admitted into A&E with Sepsis and organ failure. We were asked to come to the hospital ASAP as staff thought she was about to pass away. A & E were great and let us stay with her for an hour and told us they would keep us updated and call us again if they thought she was declining further.

She was transferred to a ward late that evening and since then my 88 year old Father and I have called the ward 4 times over the last 24 hours to get an update, is she stabilising? Is she getting better? Or is she still extremely unwell and (as A&E told us), she will probably pass within the next day or so.

I understand the hospital is extremely busy but the ward nurse (I seem to speak to the same one each time) is extremely dismissive saying they are busy and to call back later. I simply want to know if my Mother is dying or if she is now stable. I don’t think this is too much to ask....but apparently it is.

Hello. I am so sorry that we have not replied in a timely fashion to your comment. I am afraid that I was redeployed during Covid and am only just getting vaguely back to 'normal. I know I am too late to respond direct to your comment about difficulties cotacting anyone about your mother's care. However, if you can let me know which ward she was on, I would like to follow up with them. You can email me at jessica.bush@nhs.net - Head of Patient Experience. Please accept our apologies for the situation that you found yourself in.
