I noticed that my right breast had a funny shape when lying on my side, like it was being pulled inwards. I made an appointment 2 weeks later thinking I was wasting the GPs time at the start of June. The GP examined me and was lovely and said that yes there was a lump there about the size of a 50p piece and they would be doing an urgent referral to the breast clinic and I would be seen within 2 weeks. I suffer from anxiety anyway, so this has only added to it, sleepless nights, worried I have cancer, what’s going to happen if I do etc.
2 weeks came and went and I heard nothing so I contacted the GP and they said I was to contact Crosshouse hospital appointments which I did. I told the staff member I was anxious I had not heard and explained to 2 weeks waiting time I had been told by the GP. They informed me that they could see I was on the urgent list but an appointment had not been sent out as yet.
I was frustrated but I said ok so how long before I will get an appointment, the staff member then went to check and gave me a 3/4 week timescale from date of referral. I clarified that this is for urgent cases and they said yes and it was difficult to give timescales as the clinics are changing etc. At this point I was really angry and upset but nothing I could do. Another week went by and nothing until today when I have received an appointment for the end of July! ! I am sorry this is completely unacceptable for an urgent referral when the possibility of having cancer is suspected? ? ? ! ! Is that right? ?
