"This system is so much better"

About: Cardiology / Cardiology Assessment Hub

(as a service user),

I visited Cardiology assessment hub in Altnagelvin in May as I was feeling unwell and had chest pains/ I'd been to C.I.U. five weeks previously with chest pain and was given a medication which didn't seem to agree with me - left me debilitated and sickly.

I met with chest pain nurse who did a very thorough investigation. He spoke to the cardiologist who took me off the medication again and since then I have my energy levels restored and feel much better.

*This system of direct contact with Cardiology Dept was so so much better and much less stressful than sitting in A&E for hours.

*I would like it if this system was permanently in place for people who have a history of heart problems. It was quick, efficient and very reassuring. It was less stressful. The specialist nurse was very efficient and reassuring.

I am so glad to hear you are feeling so much better now that the medication has been stopped and that you feel this new system is so much better, efficient and reassuring. I will ensure the team are aware of your experience, for as specialist cardiac nurses we strive to ensure all our patients are assessed individually and treated with the utmost care and respect.

The aim of the cardiology assessment hub is to ensure patients like yourself can be assessed quickly and efficiently, ensuring the appropriate treatment plan is put in place after discussion with the cardiologist. As we continue to deliver this service we will hold these values to the forefront of our practice.
