"The most amazing group of staff ever."

About: BPAS Richmond CC/Clinic

I attended BPAS Richmond for the second part of my late-term termination in which I was to undergo with general anaesthetic. I arrived at the clinic for my appointment at 9:30 and by 11:30 I was heading into theatre. The reception staff were welcoming and warm which put me at ease straight away. The nurse who first tended to me was bubbly and outgoing and made me feel less nervous as she talked me through the procedure and asked me remaining medical questions. I was then taken to another waiting area where I resided for no longer than 20 minutes before being called ready for the procedure. A wonderful nurse led up me upstairs to get changed and called me beautiful, took my belongings and led me to theatre. She kept me chatting the whole time and another nurse made jokes with me and complimented my name. Whilst the cannula was being inserted, although relatively painless, the nurse made sure to keep me talking and distracted which I hugely appreciated. My surgeon and anaesthetist were amazing, they introduced themselves and asked me about myself whilst I was given the general anaesthetic; I felt I was not judged and treated with such respect and dignity. I woke what felt like 10 minutes later in the recovery area where 2 nurses were checking my observations and making sure I was alright, I was also reassured everything had gone smoothly. Soon after I went to another recovery area where I had juice, snacks and pain relief, before getting changed, collecting antibiotics and being discharged. I arrived at 9:30am and left by 2:30pm. All the staff were amazing to me and I felt so at ease, even though I was extremely nervous. If you're reading this fearing the unknown then please don't! Don't drive yourself crazy thinking it will be awful, although of course it will never be an easy thing to go through, these amazing people make sure they do everything they can to make it easier for you and in the long run, I am so incredibly grateful for everyone at Richmond and what they did for me!

Thank you for taking the time to post your feedback, which will be extremely helpful to other women who are looking for guidance prior to their treatment. We are also grateful for your comments about the BPAS staff, which will be passed on. Kind regards, Pam Field, BPAS Client Engagement Manager (email: clientservices@bpas.org).
