I am so grateful to the amazing NHS staff involved with my care and the care of my son after he was born at QUEH in June 2020. The midwives, especially Tracey, Aileen and the student Iona were absolutely brilliant. They were reassuring and supportive and I felt that they could not have provided me with better care. I am a first time mum and with antenatal classes being cancelled due to COVID, I was nervous going into hospital. However I truly believe it was these wonderful midwives who fully supported me and helped me have an amazing and positive experience. I will never forget them and what they did for me, my husband and our son.
Towards the end of my labour we needed to go to theatre. This is where Donald came in. He is truly an amazing doctor. What could have been very stressful and upsetting was calm and again I felt so reassured and instantly knew we were in good hands with him. He explained all possible outcomes and made us feel confident in what was about to happen, which is what we really needed at that time. Everything went smoothly despite me never expecting the birth which I had, and that is down to Donald who constantly reassured us and did everything he could to ensure the safe delivery of our baby with minimal intervention. Thank you so much for everything you did Donald, you are a hero. A day or so after my son was born he had to be transferred to level one of the neonatal unit. Again the doctors and nurses in the unit are nothing short of heroes and we will forever be grateful for everything they did for our son in looking after him. This was a scary time, especially as a first time mum, but I always felt sure that our son was in the best place and receiving the best care. I would especially like to thank all of the paediatricians who cared for him and Kayley, the student from the University of Dundee. She was like an angel looking after our baby boy. Finally the anaesthetists who assisted with my labour and the birth were absolutely brilliant. I had gone into hospital with a real fear of needing anything like this, but I felt completely safe and reassured by them all. Victor’s jokes were very appreciated and kept my mind off what was happening! Thank you so much NHS and all the staff at QUEH. You took such great care of my son and I, and I have never appreciated anything more. It was an amazing experience that I will never forget.
