My daughter was referred for an ultrasound on a lump prior to lockdown. We waited patiently for her urgent appointment to come as these are unprecedented times but nothing arrived.
I called her doctor surgery yesterday who contacted Radiology at Wycombe Hos and was told that all referrals had been automatically rejected on receipt but that they didn't send any letters letting anyone know that this had happened. Instructions are now that we were to go to our GP again and if they think it's urgent they have to refer again.
Surely a letter telling people that their referral had been rejected would have been the right and professional thing to do. People then could have had the choice to seek private scans if appropriate for them. Any lump etc is naturally very worrying and now people have to try and get an appointment with their doctors again to refer - couldn't the referrals have been held on a backlog and a letter sent to people to explain?
