"Wearing masks"

About: Ninewells Hospital / COVID screening

(as a service user),

Attended outpatients clinic at Ninewells yesterday. Loudspeaker information about using handgel - good. However directions to required covid temperature testing unit in foyer were not obvious, walked right past. At clinic, receptionist & some nursing staff were not wearing masks (although clinical staff were).   Some people attending clinics were wearing own masks & face coverings, but many were not. Felt that guidance about using face coverings in hospital waiting rooms & public areas would be useful, to both staff & patients.

Thank you for your feedback. We are committed to ensuring everyone's safety when receiving health care. You mentioned that some staff were not wearing masks. Our staff are advised that when they are not able to maintain physical distancing of 2 metres that they should wear a fluid resistant surgical mask. It may have been that those you saw, not wearing masks were not within 2 m of others. If this wasn't the case then we would like to hear from you again so we can ensure that current guidance is reinforced where necessary.
