"Not trauma informed"

About: The Great Western Hospital

My partner had ear surgery and sadly none of the staff are trauma informed in the day surgery unit and this has led to us both suffering with our mental health since.

Staff were not good at giving the right information to the right people and so getting outcomes became very difficult and didnt happen until much later than we think is fair.

Staff were hostile towards me and this caused me a lot of distress. The way we were spoken to and about felt very upsetting and care wasn't taken sufficiently to ensure either me or my partner felt empowered and this is making recovery both physically and emotionally very challenging.

We strongly feel that more information should have been made available before surgery so that this could have helped us make better informed decisions. Had we have known beforehand we would have chosen a hospital that is able to give patients better information about their treatment, and who have a kinder understanding of patients who need contact with their next of kin.
