Having worked for NHSG for 38 years this is the first time I have been on the other side as a patient apart from being in the Maternity Hospital when I had my 2 daughters.
I was referred to the Orthopaedic Service at Woodend
I was seen by the Consultant in February and had my pre assessment in March.
The pre assessment clinic is so well run with every aspect covered regarding admission to hospital and what to expect following surgery. I was going in for a Total Hip Replacement and was fully informed what to expect and how my recovery was going to progress .
Unfortunately due to Covid-19 there was a slight delay prior to my operation but I was kept informed regarding this.
It has been a very difficult time for all NHSG staff during this period with many staff being redeployed within the Service and the uncertainty of what was going to happen during the current climate.
I received a call a few days before my planned surgery and I was lucky I was able to attend at such short notice.
On admission to the Ward I was made to feel very welcome and all staff kept me informed of what to expect.
I was very lucky that I was only in for 24 hours and during that time all staff ensured I had everything I required.
This has been a great experience for me and the Orthopaedic Service should be very proud of the Service they provide.
It is up to me now to continue with the exercises so I can return to Work.
