I have Alzheimers disease and am being looked after by Dr.Mougey and the staff at
St.georges Mental Health.
It was a surprise to have the diagnosis of Alzheimer's, even though I was aware my memory was getting worse.
I would say to friends and family that I was forgetting things, and they would say--"Oh don't worry about that, it happens to all of us as we get older" (I am 80).
I went to the G.P about another problem, and mentioned my concern.
He said he would say 3 objects, chat for a few minutes and then ask me to recall the objects.
When he asked me about the objects I said "What Objects??".
He looked at the ceiling, thought for a few minutes and then sent me for a scan.
The scan showed I had Alzheimer's and I was referred to Dr.Moughey.That was in September 2019.Since then I have been very well looked after by Dr.Moughey--she has a good sense of humour, answers all my questions (and there are many), gives me very good advice re my medication and is available if I wish to discuss something with her.I am coping well with my condition. The main concern is not being able to remember a word or name in the middle of a conversation. This causes me to talk less in case that situation occurs.
"I have been very well looked after"
