"Covid-19 precautions ignored!"

About: Skipton General Hospital

I am currently being shielded, but was asked to attend today for a blood test. I was appalled at the total disregard for all safe practices in the current pandemic situation. On entering the hospital, there was NO hand sanitiser anywhere to be seen, no 2m distancing markings, no signs, and people were walking around in all directions. Once in the department there was absolutely NO social distancing being practiced and no guidance as to how this could be done. I was even asked, when trying to social distance myself in the corridor, to go into the crowded, disorders waiting room! When patients were being called in, there was no system in place to social distance from the previous. There were NO windows open anywhere in the department. Also, when I asked the phlebotomist to clean her hands before putting the needle in my arm, she began arguing with me, saying that she had changed her gloves before I entered the room. I said that since then she had handled paperwork that I’d just handed to her, and that I would be reassured by her cleaning the gloves/hands for me. She then said, ‘well I could use these wipes’ and I said, ‘Thank you, I’d appreciate that’ She begrudging gave them a cursory wipe then proceeded. I was absolutely appalled by the whole experience and now have to count down the days to find out if I have contracted the virus from my hospital visit today. Due to my immune system issues, I am someone considered to be ‘clinically extremely vulnerable’ ... I don’t think I need to say anymore. Thank you for reading
